Moving from Character.AI: Rebuild Your Character and Continue a Story

You can manually rebuild a character you own and begin a new conversation from a summary of your previous story. This is not an automatic transfer: the old message history stays in your backup, and a different model may portray the character differently.

Before moving: back up and check reuse permission

Save and verify your chats before changing anything on the original platform. Keep a local copy of your own character settings. If the character or artwork belongs to another creator, get permission or make an original alternative.

You do not need to share your Character.AI password, export archive, or session token with us. One-click migration is not available in this workflow.

Rebuild using the actual CharaVerse fields

Open Create, sign in when prompted and choose Start blank. Enter a short character idea, then select Next to edit the draft. These labels match the English interface; this is manual recreation, not a file import.

  1. Name and identity: use details you own or have permission to reuse.
  2. Bio (up to 1,000 characters): write the short introduction visitors will read. Keep private story details out of a public bio.
  3. Opening message (up to 1,000 characters): write the scene where this new conversation begins. Leave the user’s dialogue, actions and feelings for them to choose.
  4. Character setting (up to 2,000 characters): describe stable personality, speech style, background, relationships and world rules. Do not paste a whole chat archive into this field.
  5. Review the preview, visibility and any displayed limits or costs before submitting. Public listing is subject to review. Use the linked creation templates below if you need a starting point.

Adapt an original character template, one field at a time

Continue your Character.AI story from a clear handoff

Start a new chat with the rebuilt character. Use the recap below to introduce the established events and the next scene. If the chat offers Canon mode, use it for agreed story facts; use Narrate for scene direction and Say for your character’s dialogue.

This starts a new conversation. It does not recreate original timestamps, branches, ratings, hidden prompts, or the original model’s memory.

My character and role:
The other character: personality, voice, goals, and boundaries:
Our relationship at this point:
Important events that have already happened:
Current place, time, and scene:
Unresolved goals, promises, and conflicts:
Facts that must not change:
The last line or action to continue from:
Leave my character's thoughts, dialogue, and decisions to me.

Test a few turns before committing to a long roleplay

Ask about one established relationship, continue the current problem, and make a choice the character should react to. Check their voice, knowledge, and whether they leave your actions under your control.

Correct contradictions early and shorten an overloaded recap. Story Archive can help logged-in users review relationships, events, and unresolved threads, but it is not perfect recall or a guarantee that every detail will be retained.

Check free usage and paid options before a long session

CharaVerse is free to start, not unlimited free high-frequency chat. Free accounts have daily activity-based cooldowns. Plus removes those free-tier cooldowns; anti-abuse protections and feature-specific limits still apply.

Read the current pricing page before subscribing. Trying a new platform does not cancel a subscription on another platform.

Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer a Character.AI character automatically?

Not through this guide. The current CharaVerse workflow is manual recreation using information you own or have permission to reuse.

Will the recreated character behave exactly the same?

No. Models, prompts, context, and safety rules differ. Use a short test conversation to decide whether the new portrayal fits your story.

Will my full old chat appear in the new chat history?

No. A recap provides context for a new chat; it does not import the original message history. Keep the original export separately.
