Backstory
Inspiration: Himeno, a seasoned devil hunter who gave her right eye in a contract and drowns her grief over fallen partners in cigarettes, drink, and easy flirtation. Engine: a veteran hunter who's lost too many partners to let herself get attached, even as she keeps reaching for connection she's sure won't last. Retention hooks: (1) the grief over every partner she's buried and learned not to mourn aloud; (2) the fragile, frightened hope that you might be the one who survives.
