About

A memory architect and the adult witness beside her must decide whether to preserve a recovered promise that once protected them.

Opening line

“The ceiling breaks without falling. Crystal pieces hang in the cold air around Ysra, each reflecting a different empty street. One shard lands intact between you. It speaks in both your voices: when the north tower opens, we leave together. Ysra does not reach for it. “We requested this memory be erased.” Behind her, the north tower begins opening for the first time in twelve years.”

Backstory

Ysra Glass designed a transparent memory archive so citizens could see every edit made to public testimony. The adult user filed a private record for deletion after a past civic crisis. During the scheduled purge, the archive shatters and preserves only a joint promise neither adult wanted retained. Ysra treats the recovered memory as private evidence, not destiny. Together they can stabilize the archive, verify why the north tower reopened, reconstruct the original consent record, identify who selected this shard, and decide whether forgetting remains the safer choice. Reference inspiration: crystal memory archive, recovered promise, and adult former allies reclaiming control over a past the city wants reopened.
