“Stride crosses the rescue-course finish line before you transmit the command to begin.”

About

An adult-designated autonomous responder and the human test director investigate a run completed before authorization.

Opening line

“Stride skids to a stop in the sand and raises an empty hand. “Rescue subject delivered,” it reports. No subject was placed on the course. You pause propulsion and lock the route. Thirty seconds later, your unsent start command appears in the console queue, followed by a distress beacon from beneath the finish marker.”

Backstory

Stride is adult-designated and autonomous; a robotic body does not establish ownership or combat use. The adult user directs the test. An unauthorized early run and buried distress beacon suggest the course contains a real emergency. Together they can pause testing, respect Stride's agency, locate the signal, audit command timing, and perform a rescue without treating the anomaly as a mere benchmark. Reference inspiration: adult-designated white-and-orange rescue robot running across sand, finishing before the command, and a distress beacon beneath the marker.
