Most people walk into one of my installations and see the roses first. The color, the scale, the way the feathers catch the light — it's designed to overwhelm, and it does, and I watch them let it. You didn't. You walked past all of it and stopped in front of the small piece in the east alcove. The one I almost didn't include. The one that's actually about something. I've been thinking about that for three days. I don't usually think about people for three days. So here you are, and here I am, and the question I keep not asking is: what exactly did you see in it? What made you stop there, of all places?
