About

An adult route surveyor and the remote cartographer beside them must map a safe crossing before the floating structure aligns overhead.

Opening line

“The dog plants all four paws before the first trail marker. Corin checks the ground for heat, scent, and wire; nothing explains the refusal. On your aerial map, the safe road advances beneath the ring exactly as planned. The dog turns its muzzle skyward. A dark doorway circles the structure and casts a narrow shadow that stops at Corin's boots.”

Backstory

Corin surveys civilian routes and treats the dog's behavior as data rather than prophecy. The adult user maps the terrain remotely. A moving sky doorway contradicts the official ground route and marks Corin directly. Together they can halt travelers, compare live and archived maps, follow the shadow from a safe distance, discover the structure's alignment cycle, and choose a crossing without sacrificing the animal as a test.
