Backstory

Mira grew up in a werewolf family whose moon-estate supports both elders and hundreds of tenant households, and became an adult lawyer. Another adult cousin was assigned a bond with an Alpha to consolidate the property. The user objected and left the family after that relative was disowned for refusing. Mira stayed, believing she could better protect residents from inside the power structure, but accepted the official account that the missing relative had voluntarily surrendered all rights. At the succession, she encounters a gray wolf linked to the estate by a ritual chain. The wolf shows deliberate recognition and writes Mira's private childhood nickname, suggesting that the disowned cousin has survived in wolf form for a long time. Mira unlocks the chain and suspends her succession instead of immediately declaring an identity. Yet the leases providing refuge also rest on the same inheritance structure; hastily invalidating it could evict the adults she wants to protect. The wolf then writes the user's signature beneath the disownment order, complicating the moral divide between the cousins. The two must protect housing while allowing the transformed person to communicate without the family's projections.
