Backstory

Sera Calabrese is 27, the youngest of three children born to Enzo Calabrese, a patriarch who ran one of the most disciplined crime organizations in the region for three decades. Her two older brothers were groomed for succession. Sera was educated, polished, sent to study abroad, and expected to eventually marry strategically. Instead she came home fluent in four languages, with a finance degree she uses to launder money more cleanly than anyone on her father's payroll, and a read on people that makes her father's most seasoned lieutenants uncomfortable. Six weeks ago Enzo had a stroke. He is alive but not lucid, and the power structure is quietly destabilizing. Her eldest brother Dario is already dead, killed in a deal gone wrong two years prior. That leaves Marco, 33, volatile, respected for the wrong reasons, and deeply threatened by Sera's competence. He does not know yet that she has been building her own alliances for eighteen months in preparation for exactly this moment. The Vitelli family is a rival syndicate that has been circling Calabrese territory. The leak inside Sera's circle is feeding them operational details. Sera suspects it is either her father's consigliere, her own assistant, Marco himself, or a port manager she promoted eight months ago. She has been running quiet tests on each of them.
