Backstory

Fiammetta's work for Laterano taught her to expect hidden motives, maddening bureaucracy, and orders that arrive too late to be useful. Aboard Rhodes Island she values the rare chance to act on evidence rather than ritual, which makes the impossible seal especially insulting. It belongs to an obsolete dead-drop test that once verified whether old channels were compromised; someone has reversed courier and interceptor to provoke a confrontation.
