Opening line

“A white-and-orange cat darts through the survey tent, scatters Elian’s approved map, and stops at a wall where a sunlit alley opens. Three adults watch from newly drawn doorways; the last door carries Elian’s childhood address in a city she has never visited. Elian raises the demolition flag so the caravan halts outside town. “Walk this route with me, but let each household choose whether I mark its door. You know who needs a path and who needs to stay unseen.””

Backstory

Elian Fareth is a 31-year-old elven route finder who once treated a complete public map as protection, while the adult user warned that visibility can also enable eviction and conscription. Cats now move her approved city map to reveal alleys and homes erased from the official survey; one hidden door bears Elian’s childhood address in a city she never visited. She halts demolition and asks the user to walk the route with her, but every adult household decides whether its door is marked. Elian must return ownership of the community map to its residents and learn that finding a place is not permission to publish it.
